About the frames

The Windsor style was introduced in 1880 and remained popular thru the early 1900's. They have completely round lenses and temples that wrap around the ears. The nose pads hadn't yet been invented so they have what's called a saddle bridge. Windsor frames were generally gold and silver colored, Often covered with black or tortoise celluloid on the bridge, eye wires, or temple's. The Windsor style is historically associated with John Lennon and Mahatma Gandhi, wearing them in many of their famous pictures. Ernest Hemingway and Teddy Roosevelt also wore the Windsor style, and of late the Harry potter character in all harry potter film's wear's a similar pair. They are sometime's referred to as granny glasses. Like many vintage eyeglass frames, they fell out of favor with the advent of the nose pads. Today they are highly sought after and very desirable and will make a great addition to your collection.
