Cat Eye Glasses
Named after their resemblance to the shape of a cat's eye, cat eye glasses are probably the most popular style of vintage eyeglasses. Though cat eye glasses were around since the 1950's, they reached their peak popularity when Audrey Hepburn wore a pair in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany's. They then spiraled out of control, keeping fashion designers busy trying to figure out who could create the most creative designs, often adding rhinestones and other jewels. Cat eye glasses became the fashion accessory of the next decade. Though they started falling out of favor in the early 1970's,they are still a favorite for many women around the world and are highly sought after today.
